ORLANDO, Fla. – A judge denied bond on Thursday for a man who is accused of attacking at least three women, including one 14-year-old girl, and attempted to abduct one of them on Wednesday morning.
Carlos Jose Caban, 24, has been charged with false imprisonment, battery and aggravated stalking after deputies say he approached three different victims in less than 30 minutes. Caban had just been released from jail after serving 4 years for armed robbery.
The first victim reported to deputies that she was approached by a White Chevy truck, driven a man later identified as Caban, shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday while she was walking on Birch Creek Drive. The woman told deputies he tried to abduct her.
"The white truck came down from up the street here, and he veered over toward the woman," said witness Cindy Abbott. "I was like, 'is he going to hit her?'"
Abbott then witnessed a woman who Caban attempted to abduct run from the scene, "She came down the street and she was telling us, 'He tried to grab me! He tried to take me!'" Abbott said.
As deputies were looking for Caban, a 14-year-old girl told deputies she was walking to school near County Road 419 and Highway 50 when Caban cut her off with his vehicle and attempted to confront her, according to a release. During the encounter a homeless man came out of the woods and scared off the stranger, who then got in his pickup and drove off.
Deputies said just before 9:30 a.m. near the Lake Pickett Manor subdivision, another woman said Caban started following her closely with his vehicle and grabbed her buttocks. Deputies said the man then drove around the block at least three times.
Caban was arrested by deputies minutes later.
Caban's family has told Local 6 he is suffering from depression and was scheduled to see a psychiatrist on Thursday.
