Deputies seeking help after woman shot in Apopka

Woman in critical condition after shooting on Thursday

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff's Office are trying to determine what led up to a woman being shot in Apopka on Thursday night.

Detectives said that a 29-year-old woman was shot inside her car while she was on her way home. The shooting happened on the 2100 block of Boy Scout Road just after 10 p.m.

The woman is in critical condition and unable to speak with deputies.

The Sheriff's Office said that the victim was on the phone with a friend at the time. Investigators have interviewed the friend, but they still need help determining what happened.

Chase Unroe said he was just up the street when the shooting happened.

"I was in my room and I was just hanging out, and I heard about like nine to 12 shots fired and I hit the ground and I didn't really know what was going on," said Unroe.

Neighbors said with orange groves and wooded areas nearby, it's not uncommon to hear gunfire. However, the shooting on Thursday night is described to be closer.

"I heard a burst of gunfire. It sounded automatic," said neighbor Sarah Griffith. "Since we are out in the country, it's not that surprising, because they usually hear gunshots, but they are usually a lot further back. These ones were right next door, and it was really close."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 407-423-TIPS.
