ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County deputies on Thursday named a person of interest in fire that killed a woman and her two nephews. Deputies believe the fire was intentionally set.
The March 11 fire at the Misty Oaks Apartments left the upstairs apartment charred. Inside investigators found the bodies of Carllans Fils-Aime, 29, and her two young nephews, Jacque Gustave and Samuel Gustave.
Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies named LaRunne Richardson, 37, as a person of interest, but will not elaborate on the victims' manner of death or Richardson's relationship to the investigation.
Richardson has a lengthy rap sheet that includes violent crimes, such as aggravated assault on a pregnant person, rape and attempted homicide.
Only one person walked out of that fire alive -- Richardson.
His survival angers relatives and raises questions.
"I was angry. I was angry with God," said Vanel Fils-Aime, who buried his sister and two nephews last Saturday.
Vanel Fils-Aime fears his sister did not know her friend as well as she should have. Richardson had been in her life for years, but after the deaths he stopped talking with relatives and did not attend the funerals, according to Vanel Fils-Aime.
Deputies said Richardson initially gave them a statement after the fire but has since stopped cooperating with investigators -- a bad sign for grieving relatives.
"Turn yourself in because I'm looking for answers. My parents are looking for answers and the mother of those two kids, they're looking for answers," said Vanel Fils-Aime, who said his sister had no enemies. "She loved to go to church. She's a people person and everywhere she went, she had a smile on her face."
Richardson is only considered a person of interest and has not been arrested.
