Gas prices expected to drop

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Gas prices in Florida are expected to continue to drop as travel numbers for Fourth of July are expected to return to pre-recession levels.

The number of travelers is estimated to increase 4.9 percent compared to last Fourth of July, which ties the record for the most Fourth of July travelers in the past decade, set in 2007.

In the Orlando area, prices peaked in April at $3.94 a gallon. The average now is $3.26.

A year ago, the statewide average was $3.60 a gallon. Now it's down to $3.32.

Economists say the unexpected drop is the result of a worldwide drop in demand for gasoline, mainly because of the economic problems in Europe.
