Jeep hits, critically injures 2 teenagers near Orange County Walmart

Florida Highway Patrol says victims taken to hospital

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A Jeep struck and critically injured two 17-year-olds Monday afternoon near an east Orange County Walmart, officials told Local 6.

The teens, one of whom was identified as Von Michael Fusco, had just exited a Lynx bus and were talking to each other when they were hit on Colonial Drive at Rouse Lake Road, witnesses told the Florida Highway Patrol.

The teens were not in a crosswalk when they were struck, troopers said.

"I guess the kids weren't paying attention and they zoomed across the street and the Jeep hit both of them," a witness said.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as 18-year-old Matthew Keller, who attends UCF, tried to help the teens, witnesses said.

"The driver was freaked out.  I feel bad for him.  It wasn't his fault.  Kids should be more careful here on Colonial because it's a dangerous road," a witness said.

The victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center as trauma alert patients, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation, but it does not appear that Keller will be cited.

Portions of Colonial Drive were shut down and traffic was being rerouted through the Walmart parking lot during the traffic investigation, according to troopers.
