ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A woman who was found shot to death inside her Orange County home, while her toddler was unharmed in another room, was identified Monday by deputies.
Jorgete Acarie, 43, was found in a bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. An alarm at the home at 8500 Forest Run Lane alerted authorities, who found the victim's 2-year-old son safe inside the house.
The Department of Children and Family Services was called to the home to check on the child who has been placed in protective custody.
According to records, Orange County deputies were called out to the house 56 times for domestic purposes.
Lawyer Eben Self has represented Acarie over the last few years in a legal battle between Acaria and her ex-boyfriend over child custody. Local 6 has learned that Acarie went to file a restraining order on Friday night but she got there five minutes after the police office closed.
"I really couldn't believe it, although part of me had predicted that something like this would happen," Self told Local 6. Self said Acarie told him her ex-boyfriend was becoming more violent and abusive and had tried to file the order.
'It was very very bad," Self said describing the relationship between Acarie and her ex-boyfriend. "On a scale of one to ten this is one of those that was probably in the eight range. It just was a constant every day occurrence and it had gotten very bad."
Records show there has been two restraining orders over Acarie and her ex-boyfriend. Deputies haven't released if Acarie's boyfriend is a person of interest or a suspect. They say the child is physically safe.
Harbor House of Central Florida said others in Central Florida who are faced with a similar safety concern can contact their 24-hour hotline number, 407-886-2856.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
