Residents awakened by house fire

Homes threatened from house fire

The Orange County Fire Rescue Department received an emergency 9-1-1 call from a frantic caller stating they could see large flames from the roof of their neighbor's home.

Orange County Firefighters arrived at 1809 South Fern Creek to find a small home engulfed in flames, officials said.

Officials said the fire was threatening neighboring homes and power lines.

Officials said firefighters were able to contain the fire in about eleven minutes.

Firefighters said they worked to preserve the personal belongings of the homeowner.

"Today's firefighting tactics include much more than just fire suppression activities," said Battalion Chief Anthony Rios. "Our firefighters understand that even the smallest item saved can have a lifetime affect to a grieving family".

Officials said the homeowner was not home at the time of the fire but came home quickly after firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
