FHP video shows mother driving out of control

Angela Estrella tried to kill herself, kids, troopers say

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla – The Florida Highway Patrol just released dashcam video from a trooper in pursuit of a mother driving recklessly and accused of trying to kill herself and her children.

FHP said the driver, Angela Estrella, and said her two children were inside the SUV as it sped through Osceola County, rammed into a van, skidded out of control, and then slammed into the pursuing trooper's car.

Video shows Estrella weaving past two school buses, speeding through stop lights, and troopers said at one point, the SUV hit 112 miles per hour. Troopers even opened fire on the SUV when they said the driver threatened to run over one trooper. The firing officer never knew two innocent children were inside.

The woman's daughter told authorities that her mom was trying to kill herself, that she even threw a knife out the window and kept driving even when her kids begged for their lives.

Despite causing several wrecks, the driver only stopped when the SUV slammed into a truck.

Estrella's 18-year-old daughter told authorities what happened after she and her 6-year-old brother were taken to safety.

TROOPER:     Did you hear the shots fired?

DAUGHTER:    Yes. I did. And I'm like, I saw blood. I though it was me, but I'm like, 'No, that's my mother.' And I'm like, 'Yo, they're shooting at you. Stop.'

TROOPER:     Were you in the front seat?

DAUGHTER:    Yes.

TROOPER:     Do you know that you almost got shot? You have a bullet hole going right through here.

DAUGHTER:     I was trying to make her stop, but should wouldn't listen to me.

TROOPER:     Was she under the influence of anything?

DAUGHTER:     She hasn't drinken or nothing, except she...

TROOPER:     Was she on a suicide mission or something. Did she want to die? Did she mention anything like that?

DAUGHTER:    Yes. She did. But the thing is, she has nervous breakdowns or something. I don't know what it's called, but she has something.

TROOPER:     And she takes medication for that?

DAUGHTER:    She's supposed to.

Estrella is in jail and faces numerous charges after the August incident.
