ORLANDO,Fla. - Scott Gregory Campbell, known by police as the Playboy con man, is not ready to tell his side of the story in his alleged million dollar entertainment scheme as he awaits arraignment on grand larceny charges.
An officer with the Osceola Jail left a voice message with Local 6 reporter Mike Holfeld on Monday, saying, "Scott Campbell refuses to be interviewed at this time."
The people who know Campbell say he is a fast-talking con man who convinced dozens of women to invest in a TV talent show he calls "Give Me a Chance."
Investigators say Campbell met many of those women via online dating sites, like match.com.
One of his alleged victims filed a complaint in Osceola County after losing $100,000. The complaint led to an arrest warrant against Campbell for grand larceny.
Last Wednesday, members of the Brevard County sheriff's Gameover Task Force and the Flagler County Sheriff's Office arrested Campbell at a home in Flagler County .
That case is just one in what is believed to be as many as 23 incidents of grand larceny and deception in a scheme investigators say dates back to 2003.
Campbell's decision to avoid the camera may be a reaction to Local 6's aggressive investigation into his alleged scheme.
In a press release last week, the Sheriff's Office stated that the broadcast of Local 6's "investigative story" led to a "number of victims and witnesses" to come forward, "which broadened the scope of the investigation."
Investigators say the scheme dates back to 2003.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Campbell, a resident of Kissimmee, is accused of "conning women out of large amounts of money by convincing them to invest in his company's TV Talent Show."
Campbell was transported from Flagler County Jail to Osceola County Jail over the weekend.
His first appearance was held Sunday morning and bond remains $500,000.
Local 6 has developed information that suggests Campbell was asking former online "girlfriends" for as much as $50,000 just a few weeks before his arrest.
He is expected to be arraigned in Osceola County Court next week.
