Police say Florida man killed roommate with golf club

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 66-year-old man hit his roommate with a golf club during an argument Friday at their Northwest Jacksonville home, and when the club broke, he stabbed the victim with the shaft, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said Albert Garvin was arguing with 46-year-old Barry Johnson over paying his share for the house they shared on West 31st Street, just west of I-95 and two blocks south of Golfair Boulevard. Police added that Garvin was dating Johnson's sister, who also lived in the home.

Officers said Garvin threatened Johnson with some knives, then put them back in the kitchen. When the fight spilled outside the home, police said Garvin attacked Johnson with the club, then. when the shaft broke, Garvin used it to stab Johnson in the neck.

Johnson was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Garvin is charged with murder.
