Report: 'Small World' movie planned

Disney Studios chooses director, writer for film

ORLANDO, Fla. – On the 50th anniversary of the iconic "It's a Small World" ride, Disney will announce plans for a movie based off the attraction, according to a report.

Deadline.com reports Walt Disney Studios has chosen a director, a writer and the producers for the feature film.

Jon Turteltaub will direct the movie based on the ride, according to Deadline.com. Turteltaub has been at the helm for several Disney projects, including "Cool Runnings," "National Treasure," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "The Kid."

Deadline.com reports Jared Stern pitched the "It's a Small World" film and has been chosen to write the script. Stern contributed to Disney movies such as "Wreck-It Ralph," "The Princess and the Frog" and "Bolt."

According to the Deadline.com report, the "It's a Small World" film could become a multi-movie franchise. There was no opening date set for the film.

"It's a Small World" debuted on April 22, 1964 at the World's Fair.
