911 calls released in baby's birth at gas station

Mom, son doing well after surprise birth in Longwood

LONGWOOD, Fla. – The 911 calls have been released in the unforgettable trip to a gas station for one Central Florida family.

John Tester helped his wife, Shelly, deliver their son around 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Mobil gas station on State Road 434 near Interstate 4 in Seminole County.

The 911 calls were released on Thursday as dispatchers talk John Tester through delivering his son.

"Hey, I got my wife in the car. And I think she's having a baby in my car," Tester told dispatchers in the call.

Tester can be heard asking where the paramedics are multiple times as he starts to see the baby.

"I can see his face!" John told dispatchers, who told him to support the baby's head as he delivered. Paramedics arrived shortly after and as they arrive, you can hear Tester talking to his son for the first time on the 911 call.

"Hey little buddy, I got it man," Tester said.
The newborn, a 7-pound 7-ounce boy named Colton, and his mother are both doing well.

John and Shelly Tester, who have two other children, were at their home near Enterprise when she went into labor.  As they were driving to Florida Hospital Altamonte in their white pickup truck, the baby wouldn't wait, so John Tester pulled over and called 911. John Tester told Local 6 he was drawn to the bright lights of the Mobil gas station.

"I had to deliver that baby in my truck with the aid of 911," said an emotional John Tester. "It was a pretty wild night."

Paramedics arrived after Colton was born, and the baby and mother were taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

"It was amazing, I got here and I had the baby in my hands it was was fortunate," Tester said.

Local 6 spoke to the happy family at the hospital on Wednesday, who said the experience was worth it.

"It was something I didn't think I could do. I'm not a doctor. But the adrenaline took over and helped me with the delivery," John Tester said.

Mother, Shelly Tester, said she didn't doubt her husband could help her deliver their baby.

"He's a perfectionist,  I knew he could do it," Shelly Tester said. "He can do anything. I was just praying everything would work out. I knew he'd pull through at a time like this."
It's not known if John Tester filled up his pickup while he was at the gas station.
