SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a child was struck and killed in the driveway of his home Saturday afternoon.
Troopers said Richard Nixie, 6, was riding a dirt bike in the driveway of a home on Ohio Avenue in Sanford around 12:36 p.m. Saturday.
Troopers said the great aunt of the child, Rosemary Starnes, 57, was in her car and starting to back up, when the child drove the dirt bike down the driveway and behind the car.
Troopers said Starnes hit Nixie with the car and immediately stopped.
Seminole County firefighters responded and the child was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital where he later died.
Troopers said Nixie was wearing a helmet, but the trauma was too extensive.
