TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The founder of an organization that seeks to prevent sexual abuse and help survivors is this year's winner of L'Oreal's Women of Worth program.
Lauren's Kids founder Lauren Book was selected as the cosmetic company's national honoree Tuesday night at a ceremony in New York City. She was one of 3,500 women nominated for the program.
The contest awards women who work to make a difference in their communities. Book was abused by her nanny as a child and has since worked to change laws and create awareness programs to prevent abuse.
She was one of 10 finalists for the award. Her foundation will receive a $25,000 grant from L'Oreal.
