Turbulence injures flight attendant, passengers over Florida

Flight attendant taken to hospital for head injury

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – An Allegiant Air flight made an emergency landing at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport after a flight attendant and three passengers were  injured during turbulence.

The flight was en route from Fort Lauderdale to Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday when the flight attendant suffered head injuries during the turbulence.

"It felt like a bad roller coaster ride, when you see those people flying up and down like a movie.  That's what happened," a passenger said.

Airport Operations Manager Lloyd Tillmann told the Tampa Bay Times the 147 passengers on board were taken off the plane while arrangements were made for another flight to North Carolina.

Tillman said the flight attendant was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her condition wasn't immediately available.  The severity of injuries to the passengers, some of whom were taken away on stretchers, was not known.

No further details were immediately available.
