ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Florida Fish and Wildlife officials are trying to figure out what killed dozens of fish along the coast in Volusia County.
Wildlife officials sent Local 6 a picture of some of the fish lined up along the beach. Local 6 was told the fish spanned a couple of miles along the coast near Cardinal Drive in Ormond Beach.
Meanwhile, President Barack Obama signed a bill to provide millions of dollars to help fight toxic algae. The algae was blamed for similar fish kills in the past.
The bill provides $82 million for research to try to control the outbreaks. U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) sponsored the bill. Environmental groups say the algae costs the country about $100 million every year to fight.
