Dozens of rescued cats up for adoption in Volusia County

Cats removed from home in Deltona after owners arrested

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Dozens of cats rescued from a home in Volusia County are now up for adoption at the Halifax Humane Society.

Over 60 cats were taken from a home on Captain Drive in Deltona on Wednesday. Investigators say the home was covered in feces and urine, but despite the conditions, the cats appear to be healthy and friendly.

The Humane Society says many of the cats are already available and others will be up for adoption in the coming days. Workers are looking to find them new homes quickly because the shelter was already full when the cats were rescued.

"We are hopeful that our feline-loving friends in the community will extend a hand to the paws in need by assisting us in finding new forever homes for these cats," said Community Outreach Director Tyler Stover.

Anyone interested in adopting a cat can visit the Humane Society at 2364 LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach. The cats can also be viewed on the shelter's website at halifaxhumanesociety.org.

The couple living at the home, Timothy Horne, 51 and Renee Horne, 55, were both arrested on animal cruelty and other charges. Local 6 checked with the jail and found both were released Thursday after posting bond.
