The Office of Financial Regulation said Brown, who was an associate pastor at a Flagler Beach-area church, solicited members to invest in stock in Maverick International Inc., a company he indicated invested in precious metals and commodities. He led victims to believe the investments members made had high growth potential and no risk.

The OFR said Brown deposited at least $60,000 of investors' money into a personal account, adding that Maverick paid Brown's personal credit card bills totaling more than $84,000.

Brown's prison sentence is to be followed by 22.5 years of probation. The OFR said restitution is anticipated once the amounts owed to the victims have been verified by the court.
