Founder of Orlando's Summit Church passes away

Church mourns loss of former pastor Isaac Hunter

ORLANDO, Fla. – One of the founders of Orlando's Summit Church has died, the church announced on Tuesday.

The church posted on Facebook that former pastor Isaac Hunter died earlier Tuesday, but the current pastor didn't say what led to his death. The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Hunter committed suicide and Local 6 is in the process of confirming that report.

"As I write these words, it is hard to express the deep sorrow we as a staff team are feeling for this tragic loss," Pastor Jeff Kern wrote. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Rhonda, their three children, and their extended family. We love them and it is our desire to support them in any way we can during this difficult time."

Hunter resigned in 2012 after admitting he had an affair. The Orlando Sentinel later reported that a judge granted his wife a restraining order after she claimed she feared for her life and the lives of their three children.

Hunter's father, Joel, is the pastor of Longwood megachurch Northland.

Kern wrote in the Facebook post that memorial service information will be posted on the Summit blog as soon as it is available.
