OVIEDO, Fla. -

Friends gathered at Seminole High School in Sanford on Monday night to remember 17-year-old Chetana Guduru.

Oveido police said Chetana Guduru died after she was shot by her mother, Sujatha Guduru, who then turned the gun on herself and survived.

Chetana Guduru was an International Baccalaureate student at Seminole High School and was also a presidential scholar.

"We will remember her for what she was and what she was was amazing," said one of her classmates.

Local 6 reached out to one of Chetana Guduru's classmates to talk about her life and more than 50 classmates showed up.

"A lot of us noticed Chetana wasn't in class today, but we figured she just got sick. Nothing this tragic," another student said.

None of the students said they thought anything was wrong at home. They said Chetana Guduru stayed pretty quiet. One student knew both mother and daughter; he attended the same temple.

"To hear about half an hour after I heard of her death that the mother may have possibly been the killer, I still can't believe it. It doesn't make sense."
