Funeral procession closes roads

Hundreds expected to line the streets

MELBOURNE, Fla – The funeral procession of Deputy Sheriff Barbara Pill will drive along a 12-mile route through the Melbourne/Palm Bay area and during that time, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. drivers should expect road closures and delays.

The procession will begin at Fountainhead Funeral Home in the 7300 block of Babcock Street  and will travel north on Babcock Street to U.S.192 (New Haven Avenue). The procession will then turn westbound on U.S. 192 and travel west until reaching Minton Road. It will then proceed southbound on Minton Road until reaching the Calvary Chapel Melbourne. Minton Road between Eber Road and US 192 will be closed in both directions as well.

Hundreds of people are expected to line the streets, joining the Brevard County Sheriff's Office and the Pill family in honoring Deputy Pill by their presence along the processional route.

If you happen to come across the funeral procession the proper etiquette is to pull over and wait until the last vehicle has passed. Funeral processions always have the right-of-way at intersections regardless of stop signs or stop lights. Officers will be on hand to direct traffic.
