The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is asking people to become members of the "Lionfish Control Team" during the month of April.
Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports if you take a photo of yourself with your lionfish catch and post the photo on Twitter or Instagram with #FWCLionfish, FWC will send you an official "Lionfish Control Team" T-shirt.
"You have to Tweet it or post it on Instagram," said Amanda Nalley of FWC. "Lionfish is very much on our radar right now. We're just trying to find new ways to the message out about the lionfish issue and what people can do to help … more and more they're seeing them in the (Indian River) lagoon."
The contest, announced Thursday on Twitter during a live chat, began Thursday and will end April 30 or when 150 T-shirts have been given out.
Lionfish sting worse than a bee and belong in the Pacific. They lurk within Sebastian Inlet and maybe beyond in the Indian River Lagoon
