Gas prices continue falling

Cheapest gas found: $3.12

ORLANDO, Fla. – Gas prices are continuing to fall, and according to some experts, these lower prices could even continue into the holiday season.

The national average is about $3.37 per gallon, while the Florida average is about 10 cents less than that. Here in Central Florida, the cheapest price Local 6 found was $3.12 at a Circle K near the airport.

AAA spokesperson Vanessa Jones says the government shutdown is partially responsible for the drop.

"It hinders people's desire to travel when there's uncertainty. Unfortunately, it's a reflection of the climate we're living in," Jones said.

Less demand means lower prices. According to AAA, people typically do enjoy lower prices beginning in the fall when gas companies switch from a summer to fall blend.

"The question is, will we see $3 at the pump? That's a possibility. Not likely, but some stations could see that."

Jones says consumers can expect to see prices going back up after the government shutdown ends.
