Gatorland is preparing to welcome more than 70 animals that the Central Florida Zoo purchased from a recently closed attraction in southwest Florida.
Gatorland officials say alligators, crocodiles, snakes, turtles, deer and bobcats are arriving from Everglades Wonder Gardens in Bonita Springs, which closed in April after 77 years.
Gatorland officials are particularly excited about the arrival of Bonecrusher II, a 15-foot American crocodile that weighs about 1,400 pounds. His father, the original Bonecrusher, ruled Gatorland in the 1950s and 1960s. He was billed as the largest crocodile in captivity until he died in 1971.
Officials say Bonecrusher II spent the past 45 years at Everglades Wonder Gardens but is now heading to Gatorland to fill the void left by his father.
