Great white shark moves closer to Brevard County coast

2,300-pound shark tracked by satellite

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - A 2,300-pound great white shark tracked by research group Ocearch is now possibly closer to the Brevard County coastline than ever before.

Named Katharine, the 14-foot shark pinged just six miles off the coast of Sebastian Inlet Monday night.

Local 6 first reported Katharine was tracked off Volusia County last week.

Ocearch's Global Shark Tracker shows that Katharine has traveled about 125 miles in 72 hours, with a total log of 3,560 miles.

Scuba diver Jimmy Roseman says he encountered the shark over the weekend off the coast of Indian River County. A large shark was caught swimming toward his camera before eventually swimming off.
