OCALA, Fla. -

A group in Marion County is urging commissioners to pass a law encouraging homeowners to own a gun.

The Marion County Campaign for Liberty is expected to propose the idea to county commissioners during a Tuesday meeting.

In the proposal, the group wants homeowners to receive gun training.

There are some exceptions to the proposed law, including banning those with physical or mental disabilities, as well as people whose religious beliefs oppose gun ownership.

The group points to a similar law in Kennesaw, Georgia. Supporters there say the crime rate dropped by 89 percent.
