Heavy showers expected through evening in Central Florida

Local 6 is tracking heavy showers Monday afternoon as storms move south and east into the early evening.

"There are slow moving soakers that will roll over most of eastern Orange County into central Brevard County," said Local 6 Chief Meteorologist Tom Sorrells. "Once we make it past 8 or 9 p.m. things will start to improve."

Look for a little clearing Monday with a low 76 degrees. Tuesday still looks active with a high of 92 and 50 percent chance of rain, Sorrells said.

"Wednesday through the weekend the forecast is just about right on the money for August in Central Florida," Sorrells said. "The high each day will be right at 94 and the rain chances will be 40 percent."

In the tropics, Hurricane Bertha is about 450 miles off Florida's east coast. It will remain off shore as it speeds up its forward progress and moves farther away from shores.

Rip currents and swells will be the only impacts from this hurricane.
