Homeless man arrested for panhandling, Palm Bay police say
Cops say man had been warned about asking for money on street several times
Palm Bay police arrested a homeless man on panhandling charges after they say he was causing a distraction for drivers and had been previously warned several times.
Police said 42-year-old Denny Charles Viereck was holding a sign asking for money and food on the median of Minton Road and Palm Bay Road, blocking a safe view for drivers to turn, when police spotted him.
According to the report, when police approached Viereck on Dec. 28, he attempted to walk away from his sign in front of the traffic light twice.
Viereck told police that he got rained on overnight and wanted food, according to the report. He also said police harassed him all the time and that he had been warned in the past that he wasn't allowed to panhandle.
Police said Viereck's previous warnings did not include neighboring cities of West Melbourne and Melbourne.
He was taken to jail on $250 bond.
