Homeless man leads deputies to bones in woods

Human remains found near Ormond Beach

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains that were found early Saturday morning near Ormond Beach.

The bones appeared to be pretty old, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said the bones were naturally bleached and covered in mold and some scraps of clothing were found around the remains as well.

A homeless man called 911 after he found the bones around 1 a.m. Saturday in the area of West Granada Boulevard, officials said.

The bones were found about 50 feet back from the road and near a homeless camp, deputies said.

The Volusia County Medical Examiner will take possession of the remains for examination.
