No one was injured and a cat that was in the home was found safe by Brevard County Fire Rescue crews, officials said.

Firefighters said the electronic equipment left behind in the home was the cause of the small blaze. In recent weeks, there have been numerous reports about similarly designed scooters bursting into flames.

Safety officials have pointed to lithium ion batteries used by the devices, although it was not immediately known if the hoverboard model involved in the Port St. John fire can be linked to others.

An investigation is underway.
