FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Transportation Security Administration agents found human skull fragments inside a carry-on bag at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, two women heading to Baltimore were carrying the bag on their AirTran flight when the discovery was made.
The human skull fragments were found in pottery filled with dirt. The women said they purchased the pots at a religious shop, saying they are for "protection." The passengers were Santeria priestess from Baltimore, who traveled to Cuba for religious training.
No charges will be filed since BSO said they were not aware bone fragments were in the pots. The pots were sealed, and the fragments were discovered when one of them broke.
BSO said they will be in touch with Cuban officials. The women boarded their flight to Baltimore Wednesday evening. They were allowed to take the rest of their items in the carry-on luggage.
The bones are currently at the medical examiner's office for further evaluation and confirmation. The Department of Homeland Security is now handling the investigation.
