ORLANDO, Fla. -

A gas leak shut down a part of International Drive, near Kirkman Road on Tuesday morning causing a scare for local businesses.

Crews working on construction hit a steel pipe and cut the line, causing a gas leak.

Firefighters from the City of Orlando Fire Department helped locate the leak and set up a perimeter to keep people away. They spent an hour an half fixing the ruptured gas line,  impacting traffic in the area.

“Its big tourism season and closing I-drive created traffic problems for people, but we worked as quickly as we could to get it open again and safety is top priority,” says District Chief Michael Aiken.

No buildings had to be evacuated, but air samples were taken from nearby businesses to make sure no gas was inside. An energy company is now working to make permanent repairs to the gas pipe.
