Judge sends Central Florida man to prison for life for fatally shooting neighbor

Man killed neighbor during fight over barking dogs

BUNNELL, Fla. – A judge has ordered a 66-year-old Central Florida man to spend the rest of his life in prison for fatally shooting his neighbor during an argument over barking dogs.

Paul Miller offered apologies on Tuesday as he stood shackled before Circuit Judge J. David Walsh in Flagler County.

But Walsh noted that the March 2012 killing of 52-year-old Dana Mulhall "stuns the sensibilities of reasonable people."

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports the neighbors were arguing about dogs over a white fence that separates the two yards. Records show that Miller shot Mulhall five times. They had first argued two months earlier when Mulhall yelled at Miller's wife about the barking dogs.

He was convicted in May and faced a minimum of 25 years in prison.
