Judge denies bond for teen accused of running over Orlando officer

Officer William Anderson suffered severe brain injury after being run over

ORLANDO, Fla. – A judge denied the bond on Tuesday for the man accused of running over an Orlando police officer will receive bond.

Officer William Anderson suffered a traumatic brain injury July 13 when he pulled over a car while investigating a call about shots fired on Kirkman Road.

Investigators said Anderson went around the front of the car, when a passenger in that vehicle started running. Police said at the same time, the driver, Edward Kelty, now 18, sped up and hit Anderson.

Kelty, along with two other teens were arrested.

The defense asked for a $15,000 bond due to family's limited financial circumstances and suggests constant supervision.

Anderson's wife, Jessica, took the stand in the bond hearing and read a statement about the effects of her husband's injuries. She also said she has safety concerns if Kelty is released, saying that unknown individuals following her after a previous hearing.

Kelty's parents also took the stand. A local pastor also said they would work with Kelty in an outreach program if he is released on bond.
