SANFORD, Fla. - The judge in the George Zimmerman murder trial on Friday refused to grant a judgment of acquittal, saying the state has presented enough evidence to let the case move forward.
Defense attorney Mark O'Mara presented the judgment to Judge Debra S. Nelson, saying the state had not prevented evidence to prove that he's guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin.
The state has rested its case and Martin's defense team began presenting its case by calling Zimmerman's mother to the stand.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty. He says he shot Martin, an unarmed black teenager, in self-defense.
