Julie Broughton blog: How long until fall fashion season arrives?

Rainy season lingers in Orlando area

ORLANDO, Fla. – You know what I've noticed on my Facebook feed lately?  Fall clothes, specifically jackets and scarves.  Having lived in Central Florida for 12 years now, I often forget that friends in Chicago and New York are happily rocking their cool weather wear now.

As we've transitioned into the new season, our weather has been unusually wet.  Much of Central Florida remains under an areal flood advisory until Tuesday evening.  This is thanks to a few different factors.  First, a front is stalled to our north.  Ahead of that, deep Gulf moisture has been surging into our area.  Add in a little upper level energy, and you have the recipe for persistent rain.  Our rain chance stays at 70 to 80 percent Tuesday with gradual drying by Thursday.

On average, most of us had picked up between 1 to 3 inches of rain as of 8 a.m. Tuesday.  Here are a few unofficial totals:

  • Rockledge: 2.60 inches
  • Groveland: 2.88 inches
  • Poinciana Place: 3.07 inches

Expect another 1 to 3 inches on top of those totals through Tuesday.

And here's a little something for you to look forward to:  The average September high in Orlando is 89 degrees.  That drops to 84 during October, with an average low of 66.

So, not quite fall fashion weather just yet, but getting close.

Maybe.
