VIERA, Fla. – The trial for the man accused of killing Brevard County Deputy Barbara Pill entered its third day on Thursday after a juror fell ill on Wednesday, causing court to end early.
Brandon Bradley is charged with first-degree murder and faces the death penalty if convicted.
Thursday began with a Brevard deputy giving an emotional testimony about the scene where he found Pill. Jurors were then shown video from the deputy's dash camera.
Bradley's co-defendant and ex-girlfriend, Andria Kerchner, took the stand later Thursday afternoon.
Kerchner testified for nearly two hours. She told the court Bradley would not pull over for Pill because "he said he would do anything not to go back to prison," she told jurors.
Prosecutors said on Wednesday Bradley burglarized the Econo Lodge motel on U.S. 192 and was pulled over by Pill later in the day, when he shot and killed her.
Pill's dashboard camera captured the exchange and the video was played for jurors. You could hear Pill ordering Bradley out of the vehicle, then a series of gunshots. Kerchner was in the passenger seat.
Kerchner has already pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to first degree murder. She is serving 12 years in prison.
One witness from the motel said Bradley was clearly high.
"He was (on) something let's just put it that way. I don't know what it was, but he was (on) something," a witness told jurors.
The trial resumes at 9 a.m. Friday.
