VIERA, Fla. - The jury has recommended the death penalty for Brandon Bradley, who was found guilty of murder in the slaying of Brevard County sheriff's Deputy Barbara Pill.20998418
The jury said with a vote of 10 to 2, Bradley, 24, should be put to death. The judge still must rule on Bradley's sentencing, but will take the jury's recommendation into account. The final sentencing hearing will be in June.
The jury deliberated for more than two hours Tuesday, asking to watch the dash camera video from Pill's cruiser.
The jury also asked if one of the defense's expert witnesses has permission to publish Bradley's brain scan findings.
The state made their closing arguments on Tuesday, going through six aggravated circumstances on why the state thinks Bradley deserves the death penalty.
"He decided to shoot Deputy Barbara Pill to death for no other reason than that he did not want to go back to prison," said Assistant State Attorney Jim McMaster.
On Friday, Bradley's two half-brothers took the stand, discussing how they were beaten by their stepfather growing up and how Bradley took the brunt of those beatings.
The testimony got so emotional Friday, jurors were wiping away tears.
Bradley did not testify during the trial and said on Tuesday that he would not take the stand in the sentencing phase.
