SANFORD, Fla. – The jury has recommended the death penalty for the man who was found guilty of brutally murdering a teen in 2009.
William Davis, 33, was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual battery in May in the 2009 death of 19-year-old Fabiana Malave.
Seven jurors were in favor of the death penalty, 5 were against it. Davis' next hearing is September 10 at 8:30 a.m. with the sentencing 60 days later. Davis said on Tuesday that the jury should recommend the death penalty for him and told the jury, "if you recommend life in prison for me, it's a mistake."
Davis met Malave at a Seminole County used car dealership where she worked, abducted her and took her to his Pine Hills home, where he raped her, according to authorities. Davis then strangled the teen and drove around with her body in the trunk of his car, police said.
