Kids home alone during Deltona break-in

13-year-old girl calls 911 after men break into home

DELTONA, Fla. – Investigators with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office are searching for men who broke into a Deltona home Thursday afternoon while two children were home alone inside.

"Oh my God, oh my God. Someone broke into my house. I need you right now," a 13-year-old girl told the 911 operator.

The girl and her 10-year-old brother were at their home in the 2600 block of Captain Drive while their mother was at work in Maitland.

The girl called her mother first to say someone was banging on the front door.

"I said, 'Don't answer, just, you know, let them go away,' and she said, 'They're knocking really, really hard,' and I said, 'OK, just stay on the phone with me,'" the mother told a 911 operator on the line as she was racing home.

The children told investigators the men then went to the back of the house and started banging on the window. They eventually broke the window and went inside.

"He was knocking and I have no idea how they got in. They just broke in right now," the girl told the 911 operator in a panic.

The girl told investigators she and her brother ran to his room, locked the door and called 911.

Volusia County deputies said several men broke in and, according to the report filed with the Sheriff's Office, the children gave investigators some kind of description of them but at this point the Sheriff's Office is not releasing any of that information to the public.

When deputies got to the house, the burglars were gone and they found the children unharmed.
