Lake Mary teacher had cocaine in bra, marijuana in purse, deputies say

Third-grade teacher charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana

LAKE MARY, Fla. – A Lake Mary elementary school teacher is facing a slew of charges after Seminole County deputies say they found cocaine, marijuana and amphetamines in her purse as well as a vial of cocaine in her bra.

Kimberlyn Witt, 48, who teaches third grade at Lake Mary Elementary, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Two deputies were standing near a bus station in Fern Park when they said they spotted an SUV driving by.

The windows were rolled down and the officers said they immediately smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

When they pulled over the vehicle, deputies said they found the drugs in Witt's purse and bra.

Investigators said Martyn Dennis, 61, was driving the SUV. He is not a district employee, but deputies said they spotted him blowing a cloud of marijuana smoke out of the vehicle before he pulled over.

Both Witt and Dennis were arrested and have since bonded out of the Seminole County Jail.

Witt was supposed to returning to the classroom on Aug. 6, but is now on administrative leave.

Seminole School District Superintendent Walt Griffin told Local 6, he'll call for her to be suspended at the next school board meeting on Aug. 13. During the following meeting on Aug. 27, he plans to recommend she be fired, which is the standard termination process.

"It's sad and shocking for anybody," said Mary Costello, whose three kids attend the school.

Costello said her children have never had Witt as a teacher, but she has volunteered in Witt's classroom.

"I've heard she's a great teacher here," said Costello. "All the teachers here are great. I have not ever heard of one bad teacher here."

Seminole County School District officials said Witt has worked for the district for nearly 22 years. She was first hired in Sept. 1991 and according to district officials, had no issues in her personnel file.

Local 6 left a message on Witt's voicemail, but our call was not returned. No one answered when we knocked on her door.
