It took Polk County Fire Rescue three engines, five tenders and a battalion chief to put out a house fire in Lake Wales that left one person dead.

BARTOW, Fla. - It took Polk County Fire Rescue three engines, five tenders and a battalion chief to put out a house fire in Lake Wales that left one person dead.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to a fire at 4501 Alturas Babson Park Cutoff Road. Polk County Fire Rescue reports that when units arrived they found the wood house fully engulfed - and one deceased person found inside.

It took them almost two hours to bring the fire under control due to excessive personal belongings inside the home. The Florida State Fire Marshall is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
