WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -

Lawmakers approved a $50 million law that would help link Florida's bike trails into a 275-mile trail from St. Petersburg to Titusville.

Florida's Department of Environmental Protection says the West Orange Trail in Winter Garden helped generate $42 million of economic development. Now the DPS is behind the "Coast to Coast Connector," which would need $50 million to connect the trails and buy land in areas where there are no existing trails.

The trail would consist of already existing trails, such as the West Orange Trail, where residents say their business has sky-rocketed since the trail's opening.

"We wouldn't have what we have today if it wasn't for the trail," said Dennis Jones of Winter Garden Wheel Works.

Downtown Winter Garden was revitalized with bikers cruising through the center of it.

Gov. Rick Scott still must sign off of the law and at this point, the bike trail isn't in his budget.
