SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – Larry Peavy, the man accused of killing a 16-year-old girl in Bushnell, has now been on the run from authorities for four days, according to deputies.
Since he was named as a suspect in Aleaya Maria Jackson's death, Crimeline tips have been pouring in about the wanted man.
On Wednesday, authorities thought they were inches away from arresting the suspect.
Sumter County Sheriff's detectives got a tip from someone who thought they saw Peavy hiding out in a Leesburg apartment. When authorities went to arrest him, it turned out to be a man who only looked like the murder suspect -- although, that man also had a warrant out for his arrest for a separate crime, so he was still taken into custody, deputies said.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, authorities released details on how Peavy is accused of killing Jackson.
The South Pine Street home in Bushnell where Jackson's body was found was described as "the house of horrors" by the Daily Commercial newspaper, which published court documents that reveal how authorities found Jackson's body after she was murdered over the weekend.
The documents state, "The cause of death was ligature strangulation," and, "The black tape was so tight around the victim's mouth and neck that it appeared to create skin folds on the back of the victim's neck."
"Either he has no remorse, or he's a callous individual, and that's why we need him off the street," said Captain Pat Breeden, with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, who added the documents published in the daily commercial are accurate, but appear to have been leaked.
Now they want to know who's responsible.
"Our biggest challenge right now is we're trying to keep certain information within the Sheriff's Office that we definitely don't want released. That could hinder our investigation," he said.
Detectives are also still searching for Peavy. His vehicle was found abandoned near Fort Pierce Tuesday after he was captured on a Florida Turnpike camera driving along the highway, deputies said.
In one photo, Peavy appears to be smiling.
"He didn't look like he was too bothered," Breeden said, adding if detectives find anyone is helping hide Peavy, they will also be prosecuted.
