Local 6 issues programming alert

CBS programming may not be on Bright House come March 16

Note from Vice President and General Manager, Skip Valet:

I have a programming alert for you tonight. If you have Bright House cable, there is a possibility you may not be able to watch CBS or WKMG Local 6 after March 16.

Our job here at Local 6 is to provide the greatest local service we can to our neighbors -- to make sure that you receive local coverage, news and information that is important to you and your family. You know what it's like dealing with the cable companies.  They don't care about your local information. That is not their priority. At Local 6, it is. At Local 6, you are our priority and that is why we are working so hard with Bright House.

We want you to be able to watch your favorite shows like NCIS, Two and a Half Men, The Young and the Restless, and Inside Edition. The NCAA basketball tournament starts March 15 and we don't want you to miss a minute of March Madness. Most importantly, we know you count on Local 6 news to let you know what's going on in our towns and our neighborhoods.

As we continue discussions with Time Warner Bright House, we want to make sure you know that if there is a disruption in your service you have alternatives. Your service with WKMG does not have to be disrupted. Every program WKMG Local 6 broadcasts is free to you over the air. All you have to do is simply attach an antenna to your television.

In the meantime, I promise you we are making every effort to stay on Bright House so YOU will not be affected. We will be posting my messages weekly here on ClickOrlando.com so you are kept informed. Just click on the play button above to see how we are progressing. You can also email me directly at keepmylocal6@wkmg.com.

And, as always, thank you for watching and being a fan of CBS and Local 6.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

I saw on TV that I may not be able to get CBS on Bright House in a month.  What does that mean?

We wanted to let people know we are starting discussions with Time Warner Bright House and, if there is a disruption in service, we want to make sure you know that you have alternatives in receiving CBS and Local 6.  Your service from us does not have to be disrupted.

When could this happen?

March 16 at midnight.  However, WKMG will continue to broadcast free over the air and on satellite.

Am I really going to lose CBS and Local 6 on Bright House?

We are here locally to serve you with important news and information that is valuable to your life.  We do not want you to miss out on local news or your favorite CBS shows.  We are working very hard with Bright House to ensure that we can continue to bring you the very best local service in Central Florida.

Are all of the local stations going to do this?

This has happened with WFTV, WESH and WOFL.  WKMG and these affiliates are on different cycles with Bright House.  Now it is our time to enter in discussions.

After this negotiation will my cable rates increase?

Bright House Networks already charges you for local stations.  They do not have to raise rates.

I don't have the money to sign up with another cable or satellite provider.

We want you to have alternatives so we have worked out specials specifically designed for our viewers with Direct TV and ATT Uverse.  They are making sure your transition from Bright House to one of their systems will be seamless for you.

Can't Bright House Networks just get my CBS shows from the CBS affiliates in Tampa, Jacksonville or from national CBS?

Unfortunately, no. They are not licensed to carry CBS using Tampa or Jacksonville's signals.

Can't I just use an antenna to get WKMG and CBS?

Yes, you can. WKMG has and always will provide this free service.

Can I email your General Manager personally?

Yes.  He is responding to your emails at keepmylocal6@wkmg.com
