Theme World: Downtown Disney Demolition

Downtown Disney Demolition

This time, it seems Disney really is committed to remaking Downtown Disney. We heard and saw reports all over the internet that demolition has started on Pleasure Island -- and Yep. It's true.

It's hard to see in this view from Sky 6 -- but the area I highlighted in the lower right is what is being actively torn down. That's the former Comedy Warehouse club that closed (along with the other Pleasure Island party places in 2008).

The building highlighted at the top is the destined to be demolished Downtown Disney administration building.

Disney isn't wasting any time letting Downtown Disney-goers know of the comedy club's demise. New maps are already out.

That green space on the map next to the parking lots? That's the site of the former Comedy Warehouse. Erased from memory.

We've told you before this area is becoming Disney Springs -- a shopping and dining complex almost double the current size.

Here's what roughly the same area will look like when the work is finished on 2016.

The other big change you'll notice already: Parking problems. Disney has now shut down more than half of the parking spaces for the first of two parking garages -- and some of those shops and restaurants (No tenants have been announced yet)

And this project is huge. A temporary bridge is being built to bypass Pleasure Island -- along with a lot of land clearing.

That giant field is next to Cirque Du Soleil.

We'll keep you updated as more change comes to the Island -- and future Disney Springs.

You can also vote to name Disney's new giraffe.

More from Theme World tomorrow. Until then -- please keep your emails, questions, and comments coming! I always appreciate the feedback.
