Happy 25th Hollywood Studios

While Disney is showing off the upcoming 7 Dwarfs Mine Train ride today to the media
a different Disney event is kind of being overlooked by many people.

I'll have more on the mine train tomorrow. I hope to get to ride it tonight -- ahead of tomorrow's dedication ceremony.
So today let's wish a Happy 25th Anniversary to Disney's Hollywood Studios.

A lot has changed in 25 years. Here is a "then and now" look at the entrance of the former Disney-MGM Studios.

Color me nostalgic -- but I much prefer the old view down Hollywood Boulevard.

And when is the last time you saw Roger Rabbit in the parks? Or a celebrity handprint ceremony.

When the park opened in 1989  -- it was tiny.  It was rushed into production by Michael Eisner to beat Universal Studios Florida's opening by a year. Here's the "then and now" maps.

Nowadays -- the studios tour has been slashed from a 3 1/2 hour epic event to just the tram tour and Catastrophe Canyon.  Of course since then the park has added MuppetVision, Star Tours, Tower of Terror, Rock N Roller Coaster, Toy Story Mania and more.
So it's hard to complain about most of the past. As to the future, a lot of what was in the works is on hold. So here's to hoping something big is in the works to freshen up a park that has inspired many a movie maker in the past 25 years.
