Drivers die after 2 cars collide at Melbourne intersection

Melbourne, Fla. – Melbourne police are investigating the cause of a crash that killed two women, late Saturday night.

Officers say a Hyundai SUV and a Nissan car collided at the intersection of Eau Gallie Boulevard and Wickham Road, just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where she later died.

Both women were traveling alone and did not have any passengers.

The crash remains under investigation.

However, witnesses told police the driver of the SUV was speeding, just prior to the crash.

The names of the victims will not be released, until family members can be notified.
