Cellphones swiped in Oviedo smash and grab

Large rock used to smash Verizon Wireless storefront

OVIEDO, Fla. – Deputies are searching for the person or group of thieves that ransacked an Oviedo cellphone store early Thursday.

The break-in happened around 1:45 a.m. at the Verizon Wireless store, located at 8155 Red Bug Lake Road.

After receiving an alarm call to the store, deputies said they found the storefront smashed in with a large rock and cellphones scattered on the ground.

In addition to cellphones and other electronics, deputies said cash may have been stolen from a machine used to accept phone payments.

Deputies said the person or group of people were in and out of the store in less than two minutes.

There were no witnesses to the crime, but detectives said they're hoping surveillance video will help them identify whoever is responsible.
