Daytona Beach cab driver robbed at gunpoint

Deputies say assailant threatened man with shotgun

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A shotgun-wielding man robbed a 51-year-old cab driver who was waiting for a customer outside a Daytona Beach bar early Monday morning, deputies said.

The driver told Volusia County sheriff's deputies he was waiting in front of Daytona's Last Call on Nova Road around 4:20 a.m. when he heard a man yell for him to give him some money. When he turned toward the voice, he faced a man pointing a shotgun at him, deputies said.

The driver grabbed the gun barrel, but the culprit pulled it away and hit him in the mouth with the gun, deputies said. The driver then turned over some cash and the robber fled on foot.

No shots were fired.

Deputies and officers from local police departments searched the area, but the gunman was not found.
